Quick Summary

Forever Living is a prominent name in the MLM world, offering a wide range of health and wellness products, primarily based on aloe vera. Founded in 1979, the company has built a reputation for quality over the past four decades. They provide an opportunity for individuals to sell their products and potentially earn income, with the added benefit of not requiring an activation fee to join. This aspect alone makes Forever Living stand out from many other MLM schemes.

However, like many MLMs, Forever Living has its share of challenges. The compensation plan heavily emphasizes recruiting new members, which can be daunting for those without a large network or strong sales skills. The health and wellness niche is highly competitive and saturated, making it difficult to stand out and sell products. Additionally, the success rate for MLM participants is notably low, with only a small percentage making a significant income.

Ultimately, while Forever Living is not a scam or a pyramid scheme, it may not be the best fit for everyone. If you have the necessary skills and a robust network, it could be a viable opportunity. But for many, the upfront investment and ongoing effort required might not justify the potential earnings. Consider all these factors carefully before deciding if Forever Living is the right path for you.

Is Forever Living a Scam?

I get it, MLMs often raise eyebrows, and I’m not typically a fan myself. But calling Forever Living a scam? That’s a stretch.

While some MLMs have dubious reputations, Forever Living exists in that grey area between a prohibited pyramid scheme and a legal business. So, how do we figure out if Forever Living is a scam? One approach is to look for ongoing lawsuits.

There’s a notable lawsuit involving Forever Living’s affiliate in Japan, owned by two Americans. The allegations are quite serious, involving pricing practices, smuggling, and bribery by Aloe Vera of America, the largest and most profitable entity within the Forever Living group.

For those curious about the details, you can check out more about this lawsuit here. But aside from this incident, there isn’t much evidence pointing to Forever Living as a scam.

What Is Forever Living?

Forever Living is a private company founded by Rex Maughan back in 1979 in sunny Arizona, USA. They’re all about promoting a healthy lifestyle with their range of products.

forever-living-website

Surviving for over 40 years in this industry is no small feat, and it certainly speaks volumes about their authenticity.

The business took off when Rex Maughan stumbled upon the amazing benefits of aloe. To ensure a steady supply of this wonder plant, he bought ranches and started growing it himself.

By 2010, Forever Living had acquired Aloe Vera of America and boasted over 9 million representatives with a staggering income of $1.7 billion. Today, they’re selling products in more than 150 countries through independent suppliers.

Forever Living MLM Opportunity

Forever Living Products is a big name in the MLM world, offering a chance for many to make money. Their wellness products are marketed through a multi-level marketing model, where distributors sell the products to their network at a markup.

But here’s the catch.

To really make a significant income, recruiting representatives into your downline is key. As your downline grows, you earn a percentage of their purchases from the parent company. It’s a legit business model and doesn’t require extensive skills.

affiliate marketing vs mlm - mlm pyramid structure

However, this MLM model does spark debates. Some argue it resembles a pyramid scheme or even a scam. In this Forever Living review, we’ll explore these claims in more detail.

Is Forever Living a Pyramid Scheme?

The debate around whether Forever Living is a pyramid scheme is pretty heated. While there’s definitely a recruiting aspect, it’s not the sole focus of the business. You can earn compensation by selling their products.

But here’s the thing—if you’re aiming for substantial income, recruiting others into the system becomes almost necessary. This is where it starts to look like a disguised pyramid scheme. Your earnings aren’t just from your sales but also from the sales made by your recruits and their recruits. Critics argue that most of the revenue stays at the top, making it tough for those lower down to make significant money.

This structure leads to a lower success rate typical of multi-level marketing. To better understand why Forever Living isn’t considered a pyramid scheme, check out the informative video clip below.

What Products Does Forever Living Sell?

Forever Living Products offers a wide range of items, primarily aloe vera-based.

forever-living-product-line

Their product lineup includes drinks, bee-derived cosmetics, nutritional supplements, and personal care items, conveniently categorised into five groups:

  1. Bee Products: Honey baths, bee pollen tablets, propolis, and Royal Jelly supplements.
  2. Drinks: Aloe vera-based beverages that support digestion and nutrient absorption, complementing a healthy diet.
  3. Nutrition: A variety of dietary supplements, including multivitamins, Ginkgo, B12, and other nutrients in bottle and tablet forms.
  4. Personal Care: Soaps, sanitisers, creams, and body sprays.
  5. Skin Care: Aloe-based skin treatments like moisturising lotions, exfoliators, and aloe scrubs.

Are Forever Living Products Safe?

Forever Living Products have been around for over 40 years, which speaks to their safety. No company can survive that long while selling unsafe products.

Although these all-natural products aren’t FDA-approved, that doesn’t mean they’re not legit. Numerous reviews back up the safety of Forever Living Products.

Now that we’ve covered their safety, let’s tackle the next big question…

Are Forever Living Products Worth It?

You don’t need these specific products to enjoy the benefits of Aloe Vera. A quick trip to the supermarket will get you Aloe Vera for just a few dollars, which is much cheaper than Forever Living’s products.

But this review isn’t just about their products. I want to dive into the business opportunities and challenges their marketers face. Most importantly, by the end of this review, you’ll have a clear understanding of whether Forever Living is a scam or if it’s truly worth your time and money.

How Forever Living MLM Works

Selling Forever Living products can be done in various ways. One of the most straightforward methods is direct marketing in person.

Direct physical selling has its perks—it doesn’t require extensive knowledge. You buy the products, sell them, and pocket the profit. Simple, right?

But, there are some downsides. Your network is likely small, and your earnings depend on how much stock you have. Restocking can lead to delays, and if customers have to wait too long, they might lose interest.

Plus, you’ll need to constantly market to your existing network while trying to attract new clients as others drop off.

Another effective strategy is using digital marketing to sell products and recruit new members to your downline (more on this later in my Forever Living review).

How Much to Start with Forever Living MLM?

Here’s some good news: joining Forever Living is free! This is quite rare in the MLM world, where there’s usually an “activation fee” of around $99 just to sign up.

I see these fees as a way for companies to squeeze extra money from their representatives. So, the fact that Forever Living doesn’t have this fee is a positive sign. But remember, there are still costs involved since you’ll need products to sell.

How Do You Make Money with Forever Living?

Forever Living operates as an MLM, offering products that promote a healthy lifestyle. To make money, you can sell these products to your network and refer others to become representatives.

Building a team allows you to earn from each level beneath you. This can include rewards, recurring commissions, and a percentage of business earnings based on your level.

Whether you’re a member or a non-member, you can purchase Forever Living products and market them to others for profit.

Can You Earn a Full-Time Income Selling Forever Living?

Earning a full-time income with Forever Living is possible, but it takes effort and consistency. Here’s what it entails:

  • Consistent Sales: To earn a substantial income, you need to make a large number of sales regularly.
  • Dedicated Customer Network: Building a loyal customer base who are passionate about the products and willing to make regular purchases is crucial.
  • Building a Downline: Recruiting and supporting a team of Forever Living representatives can boost your earnings through their sales.

Keep in mind, maintaining a steady income with Forever Living requires significant hands-on work. But with perseverance and by growing your network, you can potentially earn a substantial income over time.

What I Like About Forever Living

Before diving into the potential drawbacks, let’s take a moment to highlight some of the positive aspects of Forever Living. These are a few reasons why many people find value in this MLM opportunity.

#1 Tons of Positive Product Reviews

Forever Living seems to market high-quality products, as evidenced by the numerous positive reviews. For instance, on Trustpilot, they have an impressive rating of 4.1 from over 500 reviews.

#2 You Can Start for Free

Unlike many multi-level marketing schemes that charge an activation fee of around $100 to join, Forever Living allows you to sign up for free. In my opinion, this is a refreshing change from the norm and a positive indicator.

#3 They Offer a Wide Selection of Items

What sets Forever Living apart is their diverse range of products. Unlike other MLMs that focus on just one or two categories, Forever Living offers a wide array of items across different categories, giving you more options to market and sell.

What I Don’t Like About Forever Living

While there are some positive aspects to Forever Living, it’s also important to consider the potential downsides. Here are some of the challenges and drawbacks associated with this MLM opportunity.

#1 Low Success Rate Due to MLM Model

MLM structures tend to reward a small group of distributors with the majority of the revenue, leaving most participants struggling to make a profit. Typically, only about 1% of people involved in multi-level marketing actually make any significant money.

forever-living-income-disclosure

#2 Health & Wellness Niche Is Saturated

Forever Living is a major player in the aloe vera product market. However, the natural health and wellness industry is highly competitive and saturated, making it challenging to stand out and sell products effectively.

#3 Forever Living Products Are Pricey

The products at Forever Living aren’t excessively expensive, but they’re not cheap either. This price point can make them harder to sell, especially when customers can find similar products for less.

#4 You Have to Sell to Your Friends and Family

One downside of multi-level marketing is that you often end up marketing to your friends and family, which can strain relationships and create awkward situations.

#5 You Will Have to Purchase Products

Forever Living puts a lot of emphasis on recruiting. In fact, eight out of ten ways to make money with Forever Living involve recruitment. Without a strong focus on recruiting, you might find yourself losing money due to the need to purchase products regularly.

#6 Forever Living MLM Focuses on Recruiting

If you don’t have a large network of friends, family, neighbours, and others, you might have to personally purchase products every month. This is a common issue for individuals who join MLMs like Forever Living.

#7 MLM Businesses Survive for Only 2 Years

Most MLM companies tend to fizzle out within two years because the pool of potential recruits dries up and the market becomes saturated. This often leads individuals to jump from one MLM opportunity to another.

Forever Living Review: Conclusion

So, back to our initial question: Is Forever Living a scam pyramid scheme?

The answer is no—Forever Living is not a scam or a pyramid scheme. Unlike pyramid schemes, Forever Living offers real products alongside its business model. Even if you don’t sell their products, you can use them personally if you wish. However, if you have good sales skills and enjoy interacting with people, there’s potential to make money by selling them.

That said, I personally don’t recommend it. MLMs require an upfront investment, extensive groundwork, and strong sales abilities. The success rate with MLMs is quite low, with only about 2% of individuals making a full-time income from them.

If you believe you can be part of that top 2%, then it might be worth a try. However, I prefer to pass on MLMs because I’ve found other opportunities that work better for me (see below for more details!).
